Bridgetown, with its spectacular panoramic landscapes is a heritage town situated in the heart of the south west of Western Australia. Its convenient position makes it a unique holiday destination where you can enjoy a peaceful country atmosphere and have ready access to all that the south west offers. Bridgetown also has a wonderful local hospital, medical practice and volunteer ambulance service which ensures security for visitors should the need arise.

Locally you can explore the main street with pottery and art galleries, gift shops, craft shops, antique stores and cafes as well as wineries, the cidery, alpaca farms, olive oil producers and the fortnightly River Markets. At the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Visitor Centre check out the Jigsaw Gallery, Museum and the Old Gaol Museum. At the other end of town visit Bridgedale, the first house built in Bridgetown by John Blechynden, and the WAG Walters Emporium. Stroll along the Heritage Walk Trail and learn about our heritage town.

Enjoy one of the many music Festivals in the region, Blues at Bridgetown, Jalbrook Concert in Balingup both in November, The Nannup Music Festival and the Boyup Brook Music Festival both in March. Other notable events in Bridgetown include the Easter Tennis Tournament, the Blackwood Classic Boat Race, the Rotary Marathon and the Bridgetown Agricultural Show. The Repertory Theatre also has a long history of performance. Check "What's On" at the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Visitor Centre web site for up-to-date information on events. Nearby in Balingup they have the Small Farm Field Day in April and the Medieval Carnivale in August.

Spring and autumn are ideal times for enthusiasts to enjoy the magnificent gardens that are open to the public in the local area. Bridgetown is particularly suited to plants for cooler climates such as roses, bulbs and colourful deciduous trees. For details see Festival of Country Gardens and Australia's Open Garden Scheme. Nannup and Balingup are renown for the tulip displays in mid August. Enjoy the vast range of native flora and birdlife, including spider orchids and donkey orchids in season as well as a vast array of fungi in winter.

Bridgetown is in an ideal position for day trips exploring the south west. Check out the Greenbushes Discovery Centre for wonderful walk trails, the famous annual Wattle Walk in August and the Norm Lindsay natural swimming pool to cool off in summer. Of particular interest to overseas visitors is the Heritage listed Donnelly Mill settlement, where kangaroos and emus wander the streets and can be fed with special pellets from the local store. Drive the scenic Blackwood River Valley triangle, visiting Balingup & Nannup and returning to Bridgetown. There are several excellent cafes and eating houses along the way. Just over 1½ hours away is the Margaret River region and its wineries, or 1 hour to Pemberton, the tall karri timber country with more eateries, wineries and brewery. You can also visit Northcliffe with its wonderful Sculpture Walk as a day trip or take a half day boat trip down the Donnelly River to the coast.
